1: Do not edit posts with dice rolls... They re roll themselvs... If you need to edit a post for whatever reason, just double post with the roll copy pasted, and I will delete the original post later on. I know this is yet another inconvience, but I can find no way around it, execpt using the Dice option, which does double posts anyway...

2: If you need to post a future action, try to give a few 'if this happens' options. 2-3 should be enough. Even more importantly, try to be specific...

3. Roll atk and damage, then state your mods after, I'll add them myself. Also, make sure you state what bonuses your character has (mage armor, shield of faith, bulls str). Put this in Itialics...

4. When posting in combat please add HP and AC in subject line, this way I can see them without refering to CS all the time. Make sure to put them in subject line so there not actually in your post.

Subject: HP: X/X AC: X

5. Please specify which target your hitting (G1, G2 etc etc) somewhere in your posts.

6. When shooting into melee, if you miss the target, there is a 50% chance that your ally is hit instead of a complete miss. If you hit your target then this does not apply.

7. Any summon monster/ally spell: During the casting the player must RP The somatic components, taking up the 1 round casting time. Casting time is still one round, the creature appears next round on your turn, you both can act on that round. Since we don't really go one "rounds" in this game The player must wait until I and one other have posted. ie.. Yorin uses the scroll, a few people post. I post the conclusion of that round, then 1 other person needs to post after which Yorin's Creature is summoned and both can take actions. Does this make sense? Im open to suggestions on other ways to handle this, but so far thats what I came up with.-OOC

If anything else comes up I"ll edit the post accordingly.

Thanks,

DM

Are we going to keep up with this system of he who posts the most acts the most? Or did we lose a lot of people on the shift over here?

We lost one, and Cbsoth hasn't posted much at all. but gained 2 so far, and 1 coming. In battle I try to keep it fair, the opponents engaged to a person who posts once a day will act once a day, but as you can see, I am trying to let a few characters act and the opponents they engage act accordingly. With the way the dice is rolled its getting complicated, I may start rolling npc's myself and not in the posts (but I will put there rolls in the text), for sake of not double posting (since mine are really long) and not slowing the game down.. Im open to any suggestions on another way to handle this though. As for regualar play, yes, he who posts will act, I give no xp for alot of posts (I do give xp for the posts I expect though) , but, as i've said before, indepth RP and above average thinking will get extra xp.

For the current situation...

I don’t remember the last time I was attacked by a swarm. Sounds like they’re climbing into my boots… would my first appropriate action be to rip off my boots?

You could have, reflex save i guess.. Didn't cross my mind ethier. General knowledge of swarms:

They can't be hit by normal weapons, only area effects do damage. (the torch, acid vials smased on them, area spells) I guess the main reason I didn't ask for a reflex save is because you were surprised. Your CON damage lasts for a full day btw.

Quick question… I’ve played before where we had a 50% chance of recovering fired arrows in tact. Are we doing that or should I consider any fired arrow as gone?

I am sory to bring this up again, but the style of combat in this game is very frustrating for me, as it is those who can post do everything, and those who cannot do nothing. Could we please go to a more regular posting schedule, with defined combat rounds and actions? I know it will be slower, but then everyone can act.

Either way it is decided, this will be the last time I bring it up.

I think for the most part he’s trying to hold up actions until everybody has a chance. I know when I’d gotten ahead of myself the DM sent me a PM that he was holding my action until somebody else got theirs in and he’d give them until xx:xx time before skipping them.

PBP definitely takes some getting used to. It’s running a lot smoother than I thought it would so far.

Shappa, I will slow the combat down a bit, making my posts only 2 a day, since there are people who can post more often I don't want to stop them from doing so. At the same time, if shappa was engaged with an enemy people would only be able to preform 1 action until you acted. As far as the rest of the room around you, I don't think them acting more would have any effect on you.... I know its a bit frustrating, but remember xp isn't based on who kills which enemy, I add all xp's up from the enemys and then divide them among the characters. Any extra xp is given by the actions you make, regardless of how many you make.

If this isnt satisfactory, then say so.... Better yet, lets take a vote! lol, All in favor of 'normal' combat write a message saying so, all in favor of my 'odd' combat (with 2 dm posts a day) then write a message saying so. I'll PM everyone telling them to vote. I have found a job now, so I won't be postings as much anyways though.

Probably the 2 posts a day. It keeps it a little more ‘round’ based.

(Congrats on the job!)

I'm conscious of acting too swiftly and do try to keep my posts to about a combat round, especially when the DM posts that he's waiting on people.

Having a more formal round (with initiative?) would slow the game down, and might take the excitement level down. It might also mean that everyone in the game (10 people?) might be held up by someone who just has more important things to do for a day. I would hate to feel that I was blocking anyone if I couldn't post for some personal reason.

My vote is to go as fast as players and the DM can keep up. Of course, I've been posting the most so that benefits me the most. However, if it's done so that combat is sectional and less frequent posters still get their turns and such that would be best. With you getting a new job and thus posting less frequently, it'll probably end up being a pretty good balance since we can't really take multiple actions until you make your post, so its limited that way.

EDIT: To clarify, I vote we do it just like we have been, as fast as the DM and each player individually can keep up. The way it is now, I've seen players who post less frequently also be attacked less and involved overall less in combat. Shappa didn't post at all this combat and so the DM compensated by having the Duergar go through a secret door. I think that's an excellent example of including everyone at their own pace and I think that should continue.

I agree, this game is great. I'm amazed at how well it's running over a forum like this, the DM is doing a wonderful job.

Agreed. I'm also one of the more frequent posters so the current system fits me the best.

Yep, and it may seem that sometimes people are excluded, like Shappa was for this combat so far, but Finbert brought up an excellent point that the game shouldn't completely stop just for one person to take their turn. For this combat, Shappa couldn't find the time to post for whatever reason but other times it'll be others. I had to delay my entrance into the game by about 4 days because I went camping, and I have a road trip on the weekend of August 22nd and various things on most other weekends as well. This past Wednesday I was visiting family and couldn't post for the majority of the day, until after dinner. On the flip side, I work from home and so I can always take a few minutes here and there and throw a quick post up, or repond to PMs and such. I also always have AIM/MSN/ICQ/Yahoo up while working so you guys can message me there as well.

Anyway my point is that though some people have a lot more time than others, schedules vary and staying away from a set posting schedule I think is the way to go. Even though you may only get a couple actions during a combat, the DM has so far been extremely good at gauging who has what level of involvement and is great at compensating for that. Also, if your posting is usually a lot less frequent than others, in the long run you're still going to get the same percentage of combat vs roleplaying vs dungeon crawling, just overall less of it.

Also, I've seen people make one post where they essentially write out all their actions for the next 2-3 turns. This is a great way to keep your character involved while not posting as frequently.

Writing out actions for the next 2-3 turns would be fine with me, putting them into the orginal post vaugely and PMing me the specifics of the actions, I would take rolls upon myself (I'd use the rand thing for players) and only making slight variations if necessary, IE You attacked an enemy, who died before your turn came. I'd have you attack the closet one to you, but I would not use a players magic unless they told me to in the PM.

BTW, Thanks you guys, I've been trying very hard to make this game enjoyable for everyone, I feel Im doing a decent job, I know its odd because of the forum and things, but I feel its moving along very nice, better than some of the games Im playing in right now... lol

Well, sorry all, but I think I am going to withdraw. I was a bit iffy on a few points, but it seems everyone else is fine with them, so, as the odd man out, I will just leave.

Good luck in the game, all.

Hey guy, if you REthink things then I'm sure that this group'll be glad to have you back.....THINK about it some more.

EVERYONE.....I agree 100% with everything said....can that be my vote??? Keep it the way it is, Great.....add 2 or 3 tentative posts is a good possibility we can try too, having "vague" and adding details as u go whether it's pm or live post works too, just remain open minded all (as you have so far obviously:)) and all will be fine....here I am posting what feels like a day late on the ooc stuff lol....

Shappa, again, the "rigid" or "impatient" part of you and your character is actually decent, just don't let it keep you out for long...hurry back even...

One More Thing: Thanks DM/Admin/; you really have done well by us all, now kill off somebody before your head swells too big lol.....seriously, good job, thanks for having me.

another thought,

In a pinch, DM, you can post as an NPC for Revooth if it is NECESSARY for the needs of the many, which I might add, Outweigh the needs of the few...

anybody else think this could be a useful "priviledge" for our group then speak up....

It’s been a few years since I’ve played and I’m in the process of moving so I can’t find any of my old books…

Can somebody refresh my memory on coup de grace? I just did one and want to make sure it was right…

You just get an auto-hit, auto-crit. So you roll critical damage and the enemy needs to make a DC10+damage will? Do I get two hits with the two handed fighting?

Thanks in advance

Yes rodale, you did everything correct, an ya you would get 1 hit per weapon (or if you had mulitple attacks per round because of BAB you'd get them too).

Auto-hit, Auto-crit, DC 10+damage, and its a Fort. Save. Other than that you had it all correct.
