Yeah, whatever. Excuses, excuses.

The problems this site is having are symptomatic of a server hosted on a dynamic IP. I strongly suspect forumotion is hosted on a computer at someone's house, and you're seeing that "landing page" w/ spam and viruses whenever the IP changes. Depending on the settings, forumotion's router/webhost might update its IP anywhere from every 5 minutes to every hour. After that, it takes seconds to hours for the update to propagate to your ISPs' DNS servers. That landing page we're seeing is whatever the dynamic DNS service serves when the destination can't be found (after the IP changed, before the dynamic DNS entry is updated).

It's annoying, and I'm surprised that there's malware being presented on those pages. Otherwise, I'd say we can live with the pretty blonde backpack girl every once in a while.

Also, I use FreeBSD and Linux 99.9% of the time, so none of that malware has triggered any warnings for me.

wow, I know very little about that stuff.. Although you may be right, AVG has detected threats on the last topic. Which is one of the reasons I switched topics so suddenly. But it has persisted.

Again, I think you might be right. So, for the time being, we shall keep this site, and hope our computers dont crash!

But, I will be keeping everything up dated on this new site I've recently figure out how to use. I've been playing in a game on this site for some time now. It allows for secrue dice rolls, complete character sheets, combat maps (which honestly I like my own better) and exteremly extensive image hosting...

But as for now, we'll keep this site, and I'll take down my announcement. Although, I'll be in touch with Forumotions tech staff, assuming they email me back, just in case as well.

By "otherwise" I meant "if it weren't for the malware". Five minutes of downtime, acceptable when presented with pretty blond backpack girl. Five minutes of downtime WITH malware, screw it, I don't care how cute she is. I only mentioned that I use a non-Windows operating system to explain why I didn't get any warnings or viruses, and why I hadn't brought it up earlier.

I'm all for moving to a more reliable server. Especially if it's got secure dice rolls and superior maps.

Speaking of dice rolls, thanks for adding the Perception check to my post. Nice result, by the way.

ya. Im still waiting on some feedback from some other players. I don't know about the better maps, things are hard to make, but the dice roller is waaaay better.

And no prob for the roll, the results are random though, can't take credit for that.

Bob - every so often, I (and apparently a few other players) see a page similar to those "This Domain For Sale" pages, you know the ones -- with some random but attractive picture surrounded by links that seem related to the domain name. I have a feeling that the ones who see this most often are the ones posting from outside the US, being Severian, Wybren and myself. I expect the DNS record changes propagate pretty quickly throughout the continental US, but take longer to reach nameservers in Croatia, Holland, Thailand, and if there are other overseas players in the other campaign, their countries as well.

FYI.
By nature I'm a ludite so 2/3rds of the first post appeared to be written in double speak (the virtually lost art of using real words in such a way as to sound like actual sentences and yet make no sense what so ever. Tim Conway was a master.)

I'm not having Pop-UP issues. I had an AVG notice of an active threat. It told me press the back button. That would take me to the intended page. This appears to have deceased but as someone who is not really tech savvy, I take warnings from the software I depend on to defend my computer very seriously.
what ever site makes Marty's job easiest.

@Marty: You can continue using your own maps. Nothing forces you to use their map system. I registered, and tried out the dice roller... nothing special. I did see an option to hide secure rolls in the editor, but I didn't see any option to make a secure roll.

the rolls are secure,. Editing the post won't change them, thats what I mean by secure. To continue to use my own maps, I need an Image URL, on this site, a simple button click sends me to a image hostingsite, where I upload the image, then it gives me the URL and two other options for the Image, that other site doesn't do that...

On the subject of Hung Wei's taking a healing potion. I distinctly remember him doing so and Marty telling him he hadn't purchased it. I too can find neither post so I have to ask if Marty edited it out of the posts.

The reason I bring this up is making those DC 10 Con check with a -7 check, (-1 additional for each round) is a quick way to bleed out.

He had posted he is going to buy one after his first cross bow bolt he took from the hidden archers... Not while he was in town, and yes; I deleted that post; because you can't buy something if your not around a shop to buy it in, Right?

O; and about my absence and the new site:

I was moving the last couple of days, I apologize.... I'll be back to a normal schedule by sunday; today and tmw will be alittle rough, but I"ll be online.

As for this and a new site; Im doing an experiment right now; AVG detected multiple threats when it scanned my computer this morning; I have deleted them and am now figureing out which website they are coming from; I believe its this one. No viruses have came through; only warnings and threats. Its a very good chance we end up changing to the new site by monday.
